LCANZ Bishop John Henderson announced the change in a special eNews to the church on 10 June after the General Church Board decided on the move on 9 June. The six-day face-to-face convention scheduled to be held in Melbourne from 28 September to 3 October will not go ahead. Read more General Pastors Conference 2021 will now be held as a one-day online conference on Tuesday 6 July. Pastors have been notified of this change and will continue to receive information as it comes to hand. For more information, pastors should contact the event manager, Michelle Storie. The Lutheran Women of Australia (LWA) Convention scheduled for Horsham, Victoria, in September 2021 has been cancelled, due to COVID-19 travel uncertainties. Elections for the incoming LWA Executive Committee and voting on the proposals outlined in the upcoming Lutheran Women magazine (August/September edition), which contains the Book of Reports, will be held in a format yet to be determined. LCA International Mission is partnering with Wycliffe English online trainer Margaret Borneman to provide an online English program for Abdi Sabda Seminary in Indonesia from 12 July to 11 August and need 40 volunteers to mentor participants for 30 minutes after the sessions. LCA International Mission is contributing $20,000 to provide emergency funding for relief to support partner churches and the communities around them at this time. Lutheran theology allows that, where a pastor is not available, lay people can be involved in most activities that pastors do. Ordained pastors lead worship, preach and administer Holy Communion for the sake of good order. Emergency situations open up the sharing of worship roles between pastors and lay people. The LCANZ is undergoing a period of change. As multi-point parishes increase in number and the affordability and availability of pastors declines, the challenge of providing regular Lutheran worship, with regular access to Holy Communion, grows. The following survey is a way of taking the worship temperature, as it were, of the LCANZ in 2021. Participation in this survey is entirely voluntary. The information gathered from this survey will be viewed by ALC Research only. Individual responses will remain confidential. A summary report will be supplied to the LCANZ Mission Directors and the LCANZ Commission on Worship, who are partners in the project. The survey closes Monday 12 July 2021.
