Aged Care & Community Services Governance EnhancementEveryone, meet Mary! Joining us from Melbourne and working from our Vic/Tas District Office, Mary is our new Aged Care and Community Services Governance Enhancement Coordinator. Mary follows Michael Dawson who has done a great job in the role before her to advance the agreed governance enhancement initiatives for the Lutheran aged care and community services. Mary is excited about her new role with us and is looking forward to meeting people across the LCA. She has a love for snowboarding and visits a little village in the States called Breckenridge at the end of the year while most people are going to the beach in Australia. Mary has worked in Quality Management and ACFI in the Residential Aged Care Sector and is excited to work for the LCA because of its ethos and values. Be sure to introduce yourself to Mary if you haven’t already. Her email address is mary.sofoclis@lca.org.au Parish Nursing and what it can offer in your parish. A pastoral care nurse or parish nurse is a registered nurse who works as part of the ministry team. Ideally the pastoral care nurse has some theological education to fulfil this role. The aim is to provide wholistic care, yet not duplicate the services that are available in the community. Parish nursing is something that could be of great benefit to your parish as the wholistic care provided enhances wellbeing, and supports those who live in their own homes with health and spiritual support comes to you. A Chaplain's Story Pastor Tim Kowald Tim feels he has been blessed and privileged to be the full-time Chaplain for over 12 years at Fullarton Lutheran Homes in South Australia. He is also the pastor for the congregation that meets there. Tim says that perhaps the greatest challenge is helping some folk to see their need of our good Lord. Conversely, perhaps the greatest joy is witnessing folk who've been distant from God come to love His forgiveness and trust Him, and gladly express it. Relying on the Lord to be his strength and shield, he remains grateful for cheerful staff support, and for residents who generously allow him into their lives, especially at times of great need. Resources TransitionsHow do families negotiate the transition into aged care? Listen as Richard talks with Annette who’s worked in aged care for over 30 years and shares encouraging insights for families facing the move into aged care. See Me. Know Me See Me. Know Me is an initiative of Meaningful Australia and is designed to help seniors feel more valued, to help them connect with family and friends and ultimately to empower them to find aged care services that will truly tune in to them as a whole person. It equips older people who are seeking aged care with questions to ask providers to ensure that their sense of purpose and connectedness is valued and nurtured.
